The University of Iowa regularly receives invitations to nominate a restricted number of faculty, staff, or students for high profile funding competitions. The UI institutional nomination process determines the best possible applicants for these competitions.
If a competition with a limited number of applicants is open only to faculty and staff members of one college (or closely related colleges such as the College of Medicine and the College of Public Health), that college will organize its own review process to select the University's applicant.
If a competition is open to faculty and staff members of more than one college, the opportunity is posted on the Grant Bulletin's UI Limited Submission Opportunities website and the Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) conducts an internal selection process to track, announce, and select the UI applicant(s). See Limited Submissions for more information. Please be aware that we make every effort to identify and post limited competitions at the website. However, if you become aware of a funding opportunity with limited submission requirements that is not listed, please immediately contact vpr-limsubs@uiowa.edu with the program title, due date and the URL.
The required internal submission materials are then reviewed by the collegiate Associate Deans for Research, senior staff from the OVPR and selected faculty. The chosen applicants then prepare a full proposal in keeping with the competition's guidelines and UI policies.
Internal nomination competitions, whether they are conducted by individual colleges or through the OVPR, are advertised in the Grant Bulletin. The collegiate Associate Deans for Research also distribute news of each competition within their colleges.
